$tate Hou$e Filing$

The State House has too many members for me to be comprehensive, so I am only specifically mentioning those legislators who have more than $40,000 on hand.

Dems with over $40K cash-on-hand:
Seth Hammett - $1.15 million , Ken Guin - $147K , Mike Millican - $97K , Terry Spicer - $95K , Frank McDaniel - $74K , Billy Beasley - $69K , Joe Carothers - $61K , Marcel Black - $59K , James Buskey - $56K , Sue Schmitz - $56K , Albert Hall - $40K

GOPers with over $40K cash-on-hand:
Mike Hubbard - $142K , Victor Gaston - $92K , Howard Sanderford - $69K , Steve Clouse - $67K , Randy Wood - $56K , Paul DeMarco - $49K , Jim McClendon - $43K , Mary Sue McClurkin - $43K , Cam Ward - $43K , Ray Garner - $41K

A couple of other interesting developments:
  • Tammy Irons (D), the frontrunner in the special election to replace Nelson Starkey, reconfirmed her fundraising command. She has $45K in the bank, nine times more than her GOP opponent.
  • Greg Wren (R) looks poised to rejoin the State House. He leads rimary opponent David Sikes(R) in cash on hand by 31K to 8K.
  • State Rep Mac Gipson's (R) coffers trails challenger Bill Harris'(R). Harris has 19K in the bank compared to Gipson's 7K.
  • State Rep George Perdue (D) and challenger Patricia Todd (D) each banked $6K.
  • Top Dem target State Rep Nick Williams (R) didn't do much to help his cause as he only has 6K in reserve.

Look through the filings yourself and post in the comments if you find anything interesting. For more comprehensive information, including the latest candidate entries and contact information, check out the AlabamaElections Directory.

i hate it mac gipson is losing. his primary opponent must be an AEA plant. Mac bring up charter schools and AEA always kills it.

Greg Wren has problems. He ran in 2002, raised some money, withdrew from the race a few weeks after having a large fundraiser. but never filed a report as required by law. So, his fundraising activities in 2002 were never reported any where. He also hasn't filed an annual report for 2003 or 2004. This is a clear violation and the Secretary of State should investigate. On his current report, he has a lot of expenses that seem to relate to items not applicable to running in 2006. He will probably be disqualified so if people in Montgomery County want to keep that seat, they need to find another candidate or convince Brewbaker for run for re-election.

Ellis is Auburn raise a little over 30K. that is pretty good.

Hubbard only netted $90K for the whole year in 2005, Ellis came in with a net of $25K or so after only 2 months...this will be interesting!

Actually I think Gipson's primary is coming from the right, Harris is a former AL GOP Exec Dir. He has good party connections, but I am not sure how strong his local ties are.

Ellis might be able to keep Hubbard (and his money) in Auburn. That is definitely a race to watch.

Hubbard's report shows strong support from a wide cross-section of his district's voters. Ellis's report shows very few voters from within HD 79. The upshot is that Hubbard has all the name ID AND all the money. Ellis (or any Democrat for that matter) simply can't win in HD 79.

I looked at Hubbard's money...

Here's what I found:

Hubbard only brought in 35% of his money from Lee County.

Ellis brought in 45% of hers from Lee County.

Hubbard took in almost 60% of his money from Businesses and PACs.

Ellis took almost 80% of her money from individuals.

Hubbard is strong in that district, but he's made a lot of business and voting mistakes that simply can't be erased.

RE: The Hubbard/Ellis Race.

Ellis's contributions are from a relatively small # of individuals that can vote in her district. Hubbard shows a much higher number of the district's voters donating money to his campaign. Don't look at the % of funds raised--in any race for the House or Senate a good bit is going to come from Montogmwry--which is outside of most districts. Look at the # of potential votes. Hubbard wipes the floor with Ellis on that count. Look at the election #s for HD 79. No Democrat can win there.

I have heard of this problem with Wren. It's amazing that the media hasn't asked him to address it or he himself has yet to address it.

I'm curious as to what business and voting mistakes Hubbard has made.

Please do not feel sorry for Mac Gipson. If he needs the money, old Paul over at the AEA will come to the rescue. Mac is pretty much a RINO. He was smart enough to understand that he could no longer get elected in his district as a Democrat, so he switched parties, but he still has heavy Democrat leanings and is pretty much controlled by AEA. He will beat Harris in spite of Harris' connections to state GOP.

Check the facts...

thanks for the info on Wren but I used your link to the Secretary of State's website and in January 2002 he DID file his report and when I called the elections division in the Sec. of State's office I was told wren even filed an additional report in May, 2002 and, because his old campaign didnt have any funds left (from May 15, 2002 report) their is no reporting required...can't report what was already reported....while I like to see fair and accurate comments, folks putting stuff on these things ought to check the facts before they get themselves in a pickle...

I am tired of candidates like Sikes running on the Republican ticket yet they are simply a "RINO"---Republican in Name Only!!! I just read my Millbrook Independent today (Feb 16) and saw where David Sikes is using Cal Franklin, the DEMOCRATIC political consultant in Montgomery---this is the same DEMOCRATIC POLITICAL OPERATIVE that ran the campaign in 2002 for the new DEMOCRATIC District Judge in Montgomery Patricia Warner!!! Warner (Cal Franklin) beat one of the most respected family court judges anywhere---the REPUBLICAN Judge Richard Dorrough---his family has been one of the finest families of judges, doctors, teachers, farmers, in central Alabama.. Sikes' "consultant" is also "handling" the DEMOCRAT who is running against Montgomery's REPUBLICAN Probate Judge!!! Great---way to go fellow Elmore County Republicans---I have only been helping Repub's since 1998 but these kind of RINO candidates ought to drive REAL Republicans to get them out of our party---SIKES has never helped a Republican candidate and now he is using a democratic hired gun to try and get elected himself---I have told folks on the Elmore County Repub committee and I can't wait to see what the Republicans in Montgomery will do when they see the best we have out of Elmore is being "handled" by a democratic political hired gun---Elmore Republicans won't be fooled...I know my wife and I will be telling everyone at school, church, ballparks, the Millbrook Men's Club, etc.etc...

I too checked with the Sec of State to see if Greg Wren filed his annual reports and he DID. Again. check the facts before you write stuff that isn't true. I would much rather have Greg as my Representative then Sikes who isusing the Republican name to get into office. Wren has proven to be honest & dependable.
Sikes, you need to switch parties and be with those who want you because we "Republicans" don't.
Greg, you have my vote
