Stars Fall on Alabama's AG race

The race for Alabama Attorney General got a little glitzier recently with Randy Owens endorsement of Troy King. Owen is, of course, the frontman for the country group Alabama. Owen makes his home in Fort Payne and has long been active in Alabam GOP politics. In fact his wife (Kelly) contemplated a race against Lowell Barron in 2002.

According to the Owens' Troy King :
really cares about the people of Alabama from deep down in his heart. Troy is an honest man, a man of integrity and character, and he is working hard on our behalf to make Alabama better.
But if you think presumed Democratic AG nominee John Tyson, Jr. doesn't have some star power in his corner, then you'd be mistaken. Tyson's brother is actually a working actor. Richard Tyson has been in dozens of projects including There's Something About Mary, Blackhawk Down, and Me, Myself, and Irene. His most notable role is probably as the villain in Kindergarten Cop.

And while "Song of the South" probably plays better statewide, I think I'd rather be backed by the guy who slugged Arnold Schwarzenegger.

For the record, his name is Randy Owen. There's no 's'.

"Song of the South" just got a little sadder.

How sad. Did Randy Owen and the other guys from 'Alabama' grow up in a housing project and live off government welfare for a while? I wonder if Owen still supports these programs? I wonder if he realizes they help "the least of these" in our society? I wonder if he knows the GOP is basically against this type of stuff?

I would call him a sellout, but I never thought Alabama's songs were that populist anyway, no matter what they wanted to portray. It was always country corporate pop. I guess we know where he stands (or has he always been there?)...

Per the first comment, I've corrected his name from "Owens" to Owen. Thanks for pointing that out.

Oh please! If Troy King was, "all that" then Randy Owen would not have to be promoting him. The same goes for George Wallace. He wouldn't have needed to have John come promote him either. Can these people not raise their own funds without NOTORIETY? I believe that this is becoming a Republican way of life.

Larry Darby is also seeking tha Democratic AG nomination.

Larry is a friend of mine and we share many of the same ideals and principals. I encourage all of my supporters to support Larry Darby against John Tyson in the June primary. John Tyson, by his own admission, has sent over 25,000 people to prison and wishes to move us from a "nanny-police state" to a "nanny-theraputic state".

Hell, all the kid in this story needed was a washing machine for his granny so he wouldn't have to wear dirty clothes to school and get picked on for being poor.

But Tyson decided psychotropic drugs were in order and now this kid is getting a chemical lobotomy per the prosecutor. I didn't know District Attorneys were also licensed to practice psychiatric medicine!?

Vote Larry Darby for Alabama Attorney General!

I heard Tom Cruise was coming out in favor of Tom Darby. Sorry, I didn't mean to say "coming out"

The poster who gave the ringing endorsement of Larry Darby is identified as the President of the U. S. Marijuana Party. Does that make her a celebrity?

It certainly gives her a HIGH opinion.

At least she identified herself, unlike the rest of us chickens.

Larry Darby invented the space age calendar, with the year 1969 (gregorian calendar) designated as year 1; this commemorates man's landing on the moon and eliminates religious references such as A.D. and B.C. All holidays are, of course nixed. The news releases at the Atheist Law Center are dated using the SA calendar.

I'll be happy to vote for him in, say, S.A. 156 (since I don't think there will be a S.A. date assigned to hell freezing over).

Hollywood could not be any more out of touch with Alabamians...Randy Owen and the other boys of Alabama have stayed in the state and know their true roots. Randy Owen has been engaged in politics for years now, and his endorsement of Troy King demonstrate how in tune he is with the people of his state. Troy King is a rising star...we should be proud of his commitment to public service and grateful for the selfless servioe he has given, thus far, to law enforcement in this state.

Oh man I hurt my back from laughing so hard. . . .

Oh - in other celebrity news, Mr. Potatohead is suing Troy King for copyright infringement. When informed of this, Potatohead Troy replied, "What is 'copyright infringement'? Was I supposed to learn that in law school? I was busy writing insane letters and stalking coeds!"

You cant blame Alabama for endorsing republicans. they are entertainers, not rocket scientists. just look how stupid barbra streisand is everytime she opens her mouth.
but for them to think troy king is a rising star is to equate einstein with pee wee herman.
King is just a political accident the power of incumbency now, thanks to Riley. I really hoped King would merely serve out the term then go back to putting up signs in the wiregrass. he is not AG material

How about some substantive comments here??? Thoughtless soundbites add nothing to the political landscape. This entire blog is pathetic.
